Telangana: 2 detained for chain snatching
The police seized gold chains, a bike and a cell phone from them.
Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police commissionerate detained two suspects who were apprehended for chain-snatching and theft. Police said, the duo, Utukuri Karunakar, 23, an autorickshaw driver, and Cholleti Shankar Chary alias Chary, 22, a goldsmith, were involved in around 10 offenses in Kushaiguda, Keesara, Turkapally, Rajapet, Bommalaramaram and Valigonda repeatedly. The police seized gold chains, a bike and a cell phone from them.
“They created terror in the minds of women and they were scared to even step out due to fear of chain-snatchers. Unless they are detained by an order of detention for a considerable period their crimes cannot be curbed,” the police said.
Preventive Detention orders were invoked against the duo by the Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh M. Bhagwat as part of efforts to maintain peace and public order and to check the menace of chain-snatching.
