Bengaluru: Beware! Women chain snatchers on the prowl
As Negi was giving the directions, one of them put a handkerchief dipped in chloroform on his mouth, making him unconscious.
Bengaluru: The modus operandi of bike-borne men snatching gold chains on the pretext of asking for address seems to have been successfully adopted by women thieves.
A 29-year-old man was eased off his gold chain by two women who approached him on the pretext of asking for an address and made him unconscious by pressing chloroform-laced cloth in his face.
The victim, Gaurav Pramod Negi, a resident of BTM Layout, and an employee with a private firm, had stepped out of a restaurant on Residency Road around midnight on June 13 when he was approached by two unknown women. They asked him for the route to a store. As Negi was giving the directions, one of them put a handkerchief dipped in chloroform on his mouth, making him unconscious.
Negi regained consciousness after some time only to find his gold chain missing. The police suspect that the theft may have been committed by transgenders, who go around late in the night. Negi became their easy target as he was drunk, the police said.
