Karimnagar: The TRS chief of Choppadandi village was allegedly beaten by the police for making a derogatory WhatsApp post against TRS MLA Sunke Ravi Shankar during his visit to Ramapuram village to take part in Beeraiah Patnalu celebrations held by the Kuruma community.

The WhatsApp post, which included a photo of the MLA eating food, came to the notice of the legislator, who directed his party officials to lodge a case against the village chief, T. Pavan.

The police filed a case under the IPC and IT Act, following which he was allegedly taken into custody and brutalised by police officials.

The incident blew up after BJP leader Bodiga Shoba took notice of it and visited Pavan’s residence. She condemned the police and hit out at the TRS MLA.

“How can police register a case on behest of MLA Sunke Ravi Shankar? The police have not only arrested him illegally, but also thrashed and injured Pavan severely. Is this how the TRS government wants to treat the youth of the state?” she said.

She demanded that the police department suspend Choppadandi sub-inspector Rajesh, who is alleged to have beaten Pavan.

Meanwhile, Pavan also brought the issue to the notice of police commissioner V. Satyanarayana, who directed ACP T. Karunakar Rao to conduct a probe and file a report. In the interim, SI Rajesh was attached to the police headquarters, with the commissioner promising action against the SI once he gets a report.

However, the commissioner said that the police would also book Pavan on the charge of posting objectionable comments about the MLA on social media.
