Chennai: A day after four persons including trustees of an orphanage were arrested on the charges of sexual abuse of minor children in Tirumullaivoyal, medical examination of 26 boys and girls of the orphanage was conducted at Tiruvallur government hospital on Saturday.
“It will take time for the results and will be sent to the magistrate in a sealed cover. Police are investigating whether more students have been victims of sexual abuse in the home,” Avadi all-women police inspector Shobarani, said.
Meanwhile, the police have taken steps to nab Babu Samuel, the warden of the orphanage, who is on the run.
The shocking incident came to light on Thursday after four girls of the orphanage complained of sexual abuse at the hands of maintenance staff and warden at a legal awareness programme for schoolchildren held in the presence of magistrates.
The orphanage has immediately raided the premises. Trustees T. Jacob (64) and his wife Vimala Jacob (59) of Villivakkam, and maintenance staff D. Baskar (39) of Ayanavaram and R. Muthu (27) of Tirumullaivoyal were booked under Pocso Act and remanded.
About 48 minor boys and girls were staying in the orphanage located inside a private school and were studying in nearby government schools.
