IIIT-Nuzvid student commits suicide
Kakinada: A PUC first-year student belonging to of Irali village in Koduru who was studying at Nuzvid IIIT, ended his life by hanging himself in the college hostel on Thursday, police said, quoting the college management.
It was learnt that they boy had to attend a lab examination for the second semester. His roommate went to his friend's room in the hostel to sit and prepare the lab records and slept there on Wednesday. The boy was alone in the room at night.
In the morning on Thursday, his friends rang him up, but there was no response. Meanwhile, his roommate came back to the room and knocked on the doors. There again was no response. The roommate informed the security and caretaker of the hostel. When they broke the doors open, the student was found hanging from a fan in the room. The hostel authorities informed the police.
A police team rushed to the spot and started an investigation.
The death shocked one and all in the college and hostel as he was an active student. Two days back, he celebrated his birthday. He called his mother by 10pm on Wednesday as usual.
The university authorities sent some of the hostel-mates who were close to to the boy to their houses for some time, to lessen their psychological distress over the death.
IIIT-Nuzvid director Srinivasa Rao told Deccan Chronicle that after qualifying Class X, the rank-holders of RGUKT have joined the PUC (pre-university course). The first-year semester was over and the results were declared 45 days back. He was excellent in several subjects, but failed in two subjects.
But, this may not have caused his death as the results were declared weeks ago, he said.
He said that when students join the first year, the university holds orientation classes for three weeks and professors, psychology consultants and others take classes frequently for the students and counsel them for their better future. Every week, Yoga classes, music classes and NCC training are given to the students. On weekends, cinemas are exhibited for the hostel students.
He said the reason for the death was yet to be known. A committee will be appointed to look into this after the police inquiry is completed, he added.
