Hyderabad: A man from Neredmet who claimed to be working in the Rashtrapati Bhavan and so could get important government jobs in Delhi for people, managed to collect around Rs 90 lakh in cash from one Prasanna Lakshmi, who runs a home for destitute children, and one for the underprivileged in Defence Colony, Neredmet.

On Wednesday Ms Lakshmi filed a complaint against him since no such job had materialised.

Surya Bhagwan and his wife met Ms Lakshmi a year ago. He claimed to be an additional secretary in the Rashtrapati Bhavan and also a member of the Food Commission of India representing TS.

They told her there were vacant posts at the Centre and he had the contacts and influence to appoint persons if they could pay Rs 2 crore. He had fake letterheads of the Rashtrapati Bhavan and the Prime Minister’s Office.

Ms Lakshmi asked for a post for herself. Surya told her to pay Rs 1 crore in cash and the rest by cheques. She paid him Rs 90 lakh in cash and gave post dated cheques. But there was no sign of any appointment.
