New detection system to nab burglars by Hyderabad City police
Their fingerprints matched the chance prints collected from the scene of the burglary.
Hyderabad: South Zone Task Force police has arrested two minors for house burglaries and recovered gold ornaments weighing about 7.5 tolas from them. The police used the advanced fingerprint detection system to nail the culprits.
Their fingerprints matched the chance prints collected from the scene of the burglary. New software called the “Papillon–Afis” (Automated Fingerprint Identification System) was used.
“By using the new application, crimes which were committed about four years back and not confessed to by the arrested boys could be detected. The apprehended boys, along with recovered property were handed over to the officials of Reinbazaar and San-tosh Nagar Police for taking further action against them,” said the South Zone police.
The Hyderabad City police is using the new software which matches the fingerprints of suspects with the police database of fingerprints with accuracy.
Earlier, chance prints collected from the scene of a crime were matched with the database of criminals manually. This was laborious and time-consuming. In the new software, the chance prints are compared with the database automatically.
