Odisha: 21-yr-old Girl Murdered and Cut into 31 Pieces

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha police on Saturday exhumed the chopped off body of a 21-year-old girl from a forest near Murumadihi in Nabarangpur district.

During exhumation, the cops reportedly found that the body was cut into 31 pieces.

The deceased woman, identified as Tilabati Gond, hailed from Baghabeda village under Raighar police limits.

The police said it had launched an investigation into the murder case. “We have launched a probe into the incident. Two persons have been taken into custody for interrogation. We will soon zero in on the accused and establish the motive behind the crime,” the Raighar police said.

According to the deceased’s family members, Tilabati left her home on Wednesday saying she was going to the local market. When she did not return till late evening, the family members suspected something amiss. They informed the local police about the missing person.

The police along with the family members and villagers searched for the girl in the neighbourhood.

After being tipped-off that the girl was murdered and buried at a place near Murumadihi village, the cops reached there and got the body exhumed.

Sources said the police had detained a couple - from Murumadihi and interrogating them.

Informing about the incident, a villager said, “A man named Chandra Rout and his wife killed Tilabati on Thursday night. The girl was in love with Chandra and always insisted him to accept her as his wife. Since the man was married, he started ignoring her request. On the fateful day, she came to Chandra’s house and insisted on staying with him. The couple, in a bid to get rid of her, killed her and chopped off her body into pieces for easy dumping. We demand exemplary punishment to be handed down to the culprits and justice to the deceased woman’s family members.”

When asked, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Aditya Sen said, “The girl’s father Luduram Gond had lodged a missing complaint. On the basis of his complaint, we launched an investigation and exhumed the body.”
