Toddler abducted from busy market place, rescued after 6 hours
Mumbai Police have arrested a 28-year-old man identified as Sandeep Parab and Shireen was returned to her parents.
Mumbai: Safety of children outside house has become a question again after a two and a half year old girl was snatched from under her father's nose by an abductor from outside a shop in Mumbai's Saki Naka area.
The incident came to light on Friday, when the child, Shireen Fatima, while playing outside her father's shop disappeared from plain sight.
The man, who abducted Shireen, did not even break his stride as he grabbed her outside the shop.
CCTV footage shows the little girl stepping carefully down on to the pavement and bumping into her abductor as he was walking past.
Instead of simply stepping around Shireen, the man picks her up and walks away.
Shireen's father discovered she was missing shortly afterwards. "Fatima was playing outside, but when we came outside to call her she was not there," said the father of the child.
The panic-stricken family immediately filed a complaint with the nearest police station, who checked the CCTV placed at the entrance of the shop for clues.
The Mumbai Police rescued the girl within six hours after she was abducted from outside the shop. Police also have arrested a 28-year-old man identified as Sandeep Parab and Shireen was returned to her parents.
It was not reported whether she was harmed in any way. It was not clear what the motive for the apparent abduction was.
