KOZHIKODE: The police is yet to file a case on the attack on a partially-blind youth allegedly by policemen who were trying to disperse two groups engaged in a scuffle on a road in Kuttiady on Saturday.  Niyas, 25, a post-graduate student at Government College, Madappally, claims to have only 5 per cent of vision and he had pleaded with the police not to hurt him, as he was not in a position to run.

However, the youngster was beaten up and is now taking treatment at Government Medical College hospital here. Mr Niyas, hailing from Kuttiady, says he had cried aloud but it fell on deaf ears. He sustained injuries on his hands, legs and chest in the police lathicharge, it is alleged. The police took a statement from him on Sunday at the hospital, but no case has been registered yet.
