Bengaluru: Girl students punch, tear at each other!
The High Grounds police rushed to the college and broke up the fight.
Bengaluru: This was campus violence that was petty, small-minded and certainly not in the same league as Rohith Vemula and Kanhaiya Kumar fighting for their right to be heard! In an ugly show of conflicting loyalties to their lecturers two groups of girl students fought with each other and pulled each others' hair and dress at Maharani's Arts and Commerce College in the city on
Saturday. The campus was simmering over the last one week after Principal Komala, who teaches arts, transferred Prof Govindaswamy, a commerce professor. It triggered a massive protest by commerce students, forcing the Department of Collegiate Education to transfer Prof Komala to Vijayanagara First Grade College. But she refused to take charge and continued at Maharani's College.
On Saturday, commerce students staged a protest seeking action against Prof Komala. But arts students too resorted to a counter-agitation, which led to the ugly scuffle. What started as a verbal duel between the two groups soon turned into a free-for-all with girl students throwing punches at each other and pulling each others' hair and dress. The High Grounds police rushed to the college and broke up the fight.
In the evening, the Collegiate Education Department issued another order transferring Prof Komala to Vijayanagar College.
