Shamshabad police sues UK NRI for defamation

Hyderabad: Shamshabad police has filed a defamation case against a non-resident Indian (NRI) for maligning them on social media. Vishwanath Kajjam, who works for a private company in London, had created a video in which he alleged that the Shadnagar police had robbed him of his property by conspiring with his siblings. He uploaded the video on YouTube and Facebook. Senior police officials at Shamshabad called the video “derogatory” and “filled with utter lies”.

In the video, Vishwanath alleges: “On April 1st, Shamshabad DCP P.V. Padmaja had ordered for an official robbery just because her husband has recommended (it). Shadnagar Sub Inspector Sathyanarayana has executed the plan by giving police protection to the robbers — Kajjam Sridhar, Kajjam Venkatesh — to break the lock of my rice mill and illegally transport eight lakh worth of stock.” The video also alleges that Cyberabad police is extremely corrupt and never delivers justice to the public. The DCP was quoted as saying, “Even if you comlain against me, the worst would be just a transfer.” The female voice in the video is heard saying this.

Shamshabad DCP Padmaja said that a local court has recently given an order supporting the claim of Vishwanath’s siblings, Kajjam Sridhar and Kajjam Venkatesh, and this has made him go against the police. “The property dispute between Vishwanath and his siblings has been going on for a while now. Both parties kept on approaching the police with different complaints. The police have booked over a dozen cases against both parties in the last four years. Several civil disputes are also pending in the court. Amidst this, in order to put pressure on us to act against his siblings, he is spreading falsehoods about the police. Since his remarks are derogatory, we decided to book a case,” said the DCP. According to Shadnagar police, the disputed property — three rice mills in Shadnagar — is worth Rs 27 crore.
