Bengaluru: Drug seizure cases reach a new high
City police arrest 95 drug peddlers in three months.
Bengaluru: Drug peddling seems to be on the rise in the city, with 59 cases detected between January and March this year.
The police have also arrested of 95 drug peddlers, including 11 foreigners, and seized 285 kg of narcotic drugs in the first three months.
South-eastern parts of the city top the list with 18 cases booked.
As compared to 2016, the number of drug peddling cases almost trebled in 2017.
In 2016, 127 cases were detected, 276 kg of drugs were seized and 305 drug peddlers, including 20 foreigners, were arrested.
In 2017, 354 cases were detected, 567 kg of drugs were seized and 634 drug peddlers, including 103 foreigners, were arrested.
A senior official said, “The city always had drug peddling, but now, the detection has increased because of the extra effort put in by our team.”
In 2017 too, the south-eastern parts topped the list with 103 cases, followed by East and Whitefield division with 53 cases.
DCP (Crime) Ram Niwas Sepat said, “We are focusing more on drug problems in the city and we have been conducting specials drives across the city.”
