Bengaluru: Debt-ridden cop who killed wife, children arrested
Subhash was arrested after he was discharged from the hospital on Thursday night,†the police said.
Bengaluru: The 35-year-old City Armed Reserve (CAR) head constable Subhash Chandra, who had attempted suicide after killing his wife and two children on May 22, was arrested by the Sampigehalli police on Friday.
The accused was produced before the court and was remanded to 14-day judicial custody. The police had earlier booked a case of murder and attempt to suicide against him and were awaiting him to be discharged to arrest him. Subhash, who was depressed after losing over Rs 25 lakh in high-stake IPL cricket betting, on May 22, had fed sleeping tablets to his wife Veena (28) and two children Manavi (3) and one-and-half-year-old Prithvi and consumed the same pills but less in number. While the three died of overdose, Subhash survived and was undergoing treatment at Baptist Hospital.
“Subhash was arrested after he was discharged from the hospital on Thursday night,” the police said.
The accused told his interrogators that he and his wife had planned to kill themselves three days before the incident. “We had planned it earlier. We did not want to kill our children, but fearing their future after our death, we decided to kill them too,” Subhash told the police.
Subhash said that he proposed the idea of suicide as he was deeply in debt and was unable to repay the loans. “The suicidal tendencies can still be seen in Subhash. He says he cannot live with the guilt of killing his innocent wife and children,” the police said.
