Hyderabad: Venus Hospital director nabbed

Hyderabad: Rachakonda police arrested the director of Venus Hospital in LB Nagar and two other employees who were supplying adulterated blood to patients. The case came out after one of the patients filed a complaint with police. The suspects are hospital director Vakati Chakravarthy, 42, manager Chepuri Shravan, 29, and a technician named Bandi Prem Kumar, 24.
Narsimha Reddy, a farmer from Balapur, was admitted at Aware Global Hospital after an accident on Thursday. His family was told that there was a blood clot in the head, and that he needs surgery.
On Friday, his family purchased two units of blood from Venus Hospital Blood bank for Rs 3,000 each and gave it to the doctors. When they inspected the blood before transfusion, they found that the blood was mixed with normal saline. Later, Narsimha Reddy’s son Ramreddy lodged a complaint. The police and the Special Operations Team raided the blood bank and took samples for analysis.
LB Nagar DCP M. Venkateswar Rao said that during the inquiry the trio admitted mixing NS in the blood and selling it to patients. “They are not only cheating patients to make money, but are also endangering others’ lives,” he said.
A case was registered against the trio. They were arrested and remanded to custody on Monday. Police also seized two blood packets and some registers and records.
