Hyderabad: Fraudster dupes cinema hopeful
She saw job offer in Tollywood on a website.
Hyderabad: Sonu (name changed) found a job offer on a website stating Tollywood director of Happy days and Fida fame Sekhar Kammula is scouting for fresh faces for his upcoming movie. The offer demanded a fee between Rs 1,500 to Rs 1,800 and deposit in the given bank details.
Sonu deposited the money and waited for the offer. However, that didn’t materialise. Instead, she directly approached the director at his office, to his surprise. She came to know that neither Kammula was directing a new film nor has he offered the job advertisement. Both have registered a complaint at the city Cyber Crime Department. The job offer on the website ran for 25 days.
Mr K.C.S. Raghu Vir, Assistant Commissioner of Police with Cyber Crime, said, “The plot came to light when the victim approached the director seeking the opportunity. Sekhar Kammula was shocked to see how his name was being used to collect money online. The website ran for around 25 days, and this is the first such case being reported.”
“The Cyber crime wing has booked a case under 165 (C), 165(D) of IT act along with Section 420 of the IPC (cheating) against the accused. Once traced, the accused will also be booked under the charge of impersonation,” the officer said.
Kammula is known for launching new faces in his movies and he rose to fame with his directorial venture Happy days and the recent being Fida.
