Karnataka: MNC job for Rs 10,000! 45 girls cheated
Mastermind of campus hiring racket offered job letters to Kodagu college students.
BENGALURU: The Madikeri police have busted a fake campus selection racket by apprehending a person from Bengaluru, who claimed to be an HR manager in a reputed MNC and hired 45 girls from two-degree colleges in Madikeri.
The accused, identified as Ganesh, along with another accused Impana conducted a campus selection drive at Field Marshal Cariappa College and another prestigious college in Madikeri. The accused managed to convince the college placement officers that they were authorised to conduct placement drives in colleges and produced letters from the company.
They reportedly interviewed more than 100 students of both the colleges and hired 45 girls and even issued offer letters bearing the letterhead of the company, after receiving Rs 10,000 each from them.
It is learnt that 32 students from Cariappa College and 13 students from Somwarpet College were selected and he had provided job selection certificate too.
The candidates were asked to join the company as soon as they finish their final exams and thus, the candidates reached Bengaluru on June 23 and stayed at different PGs, awaiting joining date from the company, which had hired them. But, even after a month they did not got a call from the company.
Meanwhile, Impana had sent a mail to all the candidates informing them to undergo various medical tests which she said was mandatory before joining the company.
Sensing something amiss, one of the candidates called up the company for confirmation. But the company denied issuing any offer letters and campus recruitment drives.
The candidate then informed her parents, who lodged a complaint at the Madikeri police station. A trap was laid and Madikeri police arrested Ganesh from a hotel where he was staying.
During interrogation, Ganesh confessed that he was working for Impana, who posed as the Human Resource personnel of an IT firm. “The accused are being brought to the city for investigation. We will also summon the placement officers of both the colleges for the inquiry. We suspect there might be a hidden motive behind the campus drive which will come out during the interrogation,” Kodagu SP Rajendra Prasad told Deccan Chronicle. Meanwhile, officials of both the colleges were not available for comments.
