Girl 'repeatedly raped' by uncle, attempts suicide outside SP's residence
She was forced into a settlement by her village panchayat after she lodged a complaint against her uncle, who later tried to kill her.;
Jind: A class X student on Tuesday attempted suicide by consuming a poisonous substance outside the official residence of the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Haryana, following the alleged repeated sexual assault by her maternal uncle.
The girl, a resident of Kaithal's Dayora Khurana, was living with her uncle in a village under Sadar Police Station area, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Captain Singh said.
She alleged that she was raped repeatedly by her uncle and was forced into a settlement by the village panchayat after she lodged a complaint against him at Woman Police Station a month ago. However, her uncle continued to rape her and also tried to kill her.
The girl was admitted to a hospital in Jind in a critical condition after she consumed some poisonous substance. She was later referred to PGI, Rohtak.
The DSP, Women Police Station in-charge Santosh Singh, and other officials reached the hospital on receiving information about the incident.
Police have registered a case of rape against the maternal uncle after recording the victim's statement. Raids are being conducted to nab the accused, Singh added.
