Chennai: A day after a two-and-a- half-year-old child was kidnapped outside his house in Tondiarpet, police with the help of locals traced and secured the child from a boy in Korukkupet on Tuesday.

Mohammed Sathu, the eldest son of the couple, Mohammed Iliyas-Barkath Nisha was kidnapped in broad daylight from outside his house on 2nd street, Nethaji Nagar in Tondiarpet. A blurred CCTV footage showed a youth on a bicycle pedalling away with the child, after which the family members filed a complaint with the RK Nagar police station.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, residents of Karneshwar Nagar in Korukkupet approached the local police alleging suspicion on a boy in their neighbourhood based on CCTV footage they saw on television channels.  The police with their help nabbed the suspect. The boy who kidnapped the child is a teenager and the reason why he took the boy away is not clear yet, police sources said. The boy’s mother Sudharani wore a pensive look and frequented outside her house more than usual to keep a watch which raised suspicion among the locals, police sources said.

A police team secured the child and handed over the child to his parents on Tuesday evening. The child’s father sells clothes outside Kilpauk Medical College Hospital with his wife. Mohammed Sathu is their eldest child. The couple gave birth to their second child only a month ago.
