Chennai: Tutor elopes with student, arrested for abduction
The girl, 20, identified as Mahak, a student in Punjab, had been going to Jai Kishan, a teacher, for tutoring after college.
Chennai: Rameswaram police handed over a 65-year-old man and his wife to Punjab police after the girl’s parents set out on a manhunt to find their daughter whom they said the man had allegedly kidnapped.
The girl, 20, identified as Mahak, a student in Punjab, had been going to Jai Kishan, a teacher, for tutoring after college.
The man used to take interest in teaching her, her parents said. Over time, Jai is said to have seduced Mahak and convinced her to elope with him.
On September 11, Mahak, on the pretext of leaving for tuition classes eloped with Jai Kishan. The couple travelled across the country, from Punjab to Delhi after which they went to Agra, Hyderabad, Vishakapatnam before arriving in Tamil Nadu. While they were travelling across the country, the couple also got married.
The couple reached Chennai on September 23 before travelling to Rameswaram.
The Ramesharam police led by SP Om Prakash Meena, who had received prior information on their whereabouts, nabbed the couple and handed them over to the parents.
The couple has been taken back to Punjab, where further action will be taken, police sources here said.
