HYDERABAD: Panic prevailed in Veeranagar, Chintalbasti, after two burqa-clad women, aged between 25 and 30 years, trespassed into a local Hanuman temple and Rock Memorial church and allegedly damaged the idols placed there.

Sources said they walked in at about 9 am, armed with a spanner and a hammer. They first entered the temple and tried to damage the idol. Later they damaged statues of Jesus and Mother Mary at Rock church in the same area, Saifabad police said.

“We chased them from the Ram Lila maidan in Chintalbasti and finally caught them in Rock church. Later we alerted Saifabad police,” said Kanti Kiran, state BJP general secretary, SC wing.

“When a devotee, G. Lokesh, tried to catch them, one of them bit his arm and fled,” he said. They also tried to bite two constables when police tried to nab the two women, police sources said.

“They stay in a rented house near Sarvi hotel in Masab Tank and they seemed unstable mentally,” a police official from the central zone said.
