Hyderabad: A 60-year-old man working as a watchman at an apartment in Jawaharnagar sexually assaulted a  16-year-old girl, resulting in her pregnancy. The accused was identified as Shankar. This is the third such incident in the city in the past four days where elderly men have sexually assaulted minors.

According to police, Shankar is a resident of Vikalangula Colony in Jawaharnagar. The victim, who is the only daughter of a visually challenged couple, was also living in the same apartment.

A few days ago, the girl complained of severe stomach pain to her relatives. When she was taken to the Gandhi hospital for treatment, the doctors diagnosed that she was five months pregnant.

On enquiry, she revealed to her relatives that the suspect had taken her to his house and sexually assaulted her six months ago. Though the incident happened six months ago, the girl did not reveal it to her parents as she was worried about the consequences.

Based on a complaint, police arrested Shankar and registered a case under Pocso and of rape against him. The accused will be produced before the court and sent to remand.
