Four Arrested for Misbehaving With a Woman MLA Contestant

Hyderabad: The police took into custody four persons for physically assaulting, outraging the modesty of a woman contestant from the Nampally constituency and confining her, and for violating the model code of conduct (MCC).

The case under the MCC was added after the victim approached the Election Commission of India. “We took violation of the MCC as a top priority under the direction of the ECI as the victim was a candidate in the November 30 election,” said Asifnagar inspector G. Venkateshwarlu.

The Asifnagar police said the incident took place at a programme in Arab Galli, Muradnagar, on November 26. They also snatched Rs. 15,000 and her mobile phone and locked her in a room, said inspector Venkateshwarlu.

The accused were identified as Mohd Moosa, 42, a merchant, function hall owner Syed Sikendar, 39, supervisor Mohammed Aleem, 43, and realtor Hasin Bin Gafoor, 44.

Based on the victim’s complaint Asifnagar police registered a case (405/2023) for outraging modesty, wrongful confinement, assaulting and using criminal force, theft, criminal intimidation, causing hurt.

The police on November 26 issued the accused notice under Section 41(A) of the CrPC, city police commissioner Sandeep Shandilya said on Monday.
