According to the investigation, the trio deemed the child's birth a \"sin\" solely because she was a girl
KAKINADA: Two women from Kakinada district, were sentenced to life imprisonment on Monday for the horrifying murder of a 15-day-old girl.
The judge found Kalla Srujana and her mother, Malireddy Mahalakshmi, guilty of throwing the infant into a well and causing her death in June 2020. Srujana's grandmother, Gandham Kanakaratnam, had also been accused but passed away before the trial concluded.
According to the investigation, the trio deemed the child's birth a "sin" solely because she was a girl. This deeply disturbing case highlights the continued prevalence of gender bias and infanticide in parts of India.
Public Prosecutor M.A. Bhasha and the investigating officer, Inspector P.E. Pawan Kumar Reddy, were commended by the East Godavari District Superintendent of Police, P. Jagadish, for their efforts in securing justice for the victim.
