Hyderabad: The Commissioner’s Task Force, North Zone nabbed a three-member gang, including two students and an assistant film director, for assaulting victims on foot and stealing their gadgets and money.
The arrested were identified as Seetha Vignesh Yadav alias Bablu, 21, a degree student from Malkajgiri, Porika Maharishi, 21, a B.Tech student from Nacharam and Kota Shiva Reddy, 20 an upcoming film director, police said.
The trio moved in isolated areas late at night on a two-wheeler and targetted individuals on foot by assaulting them and fleeing with their valuables.
The gang was involved in two cases at Gopalapuram and Tukaram Gate police station. Officials seized two stolen mobile phones and the two-wheeler used to commit the offences, from their possession, said the DCP, Commissioner’s Task Force, P. Radhakrishna Rao.
“Vignesh Yadav is a degree final year student who came in contact with Porika Maharshi and Shiva Reddy,” the police official said.
“They used to meet and consume liquor occasionally and as their incomes were not sufficient to fund their expenses, they hatched a plan to rob people in isolated areas,” the official added.
To detect the robbery case, the CCTV footages were verified and on Sunday morning, the police laid a trap near Oliphant Bridge in Secunderabad and apprehended the men.
They were later handed over to the Gopalapuram police for further investigation.
