Serial rapist and murderer, Jaishankar ends life in jail
According to the police, Jaishankar was found lying in a pool of blood at around 2.30 am by a beat official on rounds.
Bengaluru: Serial rapist and murderer M. Jaishankar, alias ‘Psycho Shankar’, allegedly committed suicide by slitting his throat with a shaving blade at his cell in the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison early Tuesday. He was suffering from depression and was under treatment.
The 40-year-old prisoner, a truck driver by profession and a native of Salem in Tamil Nadu, was accused in over 20 cases of rape and murders in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. He was serving 10 years of imprisonment at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison and lodged at a separate cell as he was behaving aggressively with other jail inmates.
According to the police, Jaishankar was found lying in a pool of blood at around 2.30 am by a beat official on rounds. He along with other jail staff shifted him to the prison hospital and later rushed him to Victoria hospital at around 3.30 am. He was, however, declared brought dead by Victoria Hospital doctors.
Prime facie it appears that Jaishankar slit his throat with a blade which he may have stolen from the prison barber. It is suspected to be a case of suicide as he was alone in the cell when the incident happened. The jurisdictional Parappana Agrahara police have taken up a case of unnatural death and are awaiting postmortem report to ascertain the cause of death. Jaishankar had around 15 cases of rape and murder pending in Chennai, Dharmapuri, Hosur, Salem, Thirupathur, Bengaluru, Chitradurga, Hiriyuru, Kaduru, Monakalmuru, and Tumakuru police station limits.
He was convicted in three cases with 10 years of imprisonment, the police said.
