Bengaluru: Animation student dies in hit-and-run
The victim, R. Sandeep, a 25-year-old animation student, was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
BENGALURU: A 25-year-old animation student died in a hit and run accident early Sunday at Arvind Circle in J.P. Nagar, after a speeding SUV rammed his bike in Jayanagar traffic police limits.
The accident occurred around 4.20 am, when the victim, R. Sandeep, son of Ravi R, an industrialist, was returning home from his friend’s house. A resident of Jayanagar III Block, Sandeep was pursuing animation course at a private institute. He is survived by his parents and a younger sister, who is studying medicine in the US. According to the police, Sandeep was not wearing a helmet and was reportedly drunk at the time of the incident.
A speeding Toyota Qualis allegedly rammed into his bike, resulting in his fall. Sandeep fell onto the left side of the road and died instantly, after his head dashed onto the pavement.
Passersby rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead. According to a senior police officer, the rider was not wearing any safety gear and was reportedly drunk. However, they were awaiting the post-mortem report.
Efforts on to nab SUV driver
It is believed that a traffic surveillance camera near the accident spot wasn’t working at the time of accident, which has hampered the probe.
S. Girish, Deputy Commissioner of police, traffic, (West) told this newspaper, “Efforts are on to nab the fleeing accused. Police have retrieved CCTV footage from nearby camera and are trying to zero in on the car registration number. The driver will be arrested soon.”
