Hyderabad: NGOs, cops foil 3 child marriages

Based on information passed by neighbours of the girl, the officials conducted an inspection and counselled the parents of the girl.

Hyderabad: Child welfare officials, NGOs and police foiled three child marriages in Nagarkurnool and Hyderabad districts on Thursday. The tahsildar of Kolhapur in Nagarkurnool, Mr Sundar Raju, the with police, ICDA and other agencies rescued a minor girl from child marriage. Based on information passed by neighbours of the girl, the officials conducted an inspection and counselled the parents of the girl.

Similarly, the CPDO of ICDC, Ms Laxmi, the tahsildar of Balmur mandal, Mr Anjireddy visited a girl’s house whose marriage was scheduled for April 29 in the Lingotam village of Acchampet mandal. Officials sent the girl to child care and took an affidavit from the parents. Meanwhile, the Balala Hakkula Sangam and other NGOs rescued another girl from a child marriage in Malakpet. The 15-year-old girl's marriage was scheduled on April 30 with a 37-year-old man who already had three children. The child was sent to a state run home in Kacheguda.
