HC took the custodial death of auto driver as suo moto taken up petition

HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court on Thursday took up suo motu a petition over the alleged custodial death of autorickshaw driver Chiranjeevi A., a Dalit, in the Tukaramgate police station. A division bench headed by Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan will hear the case on Friday.

Taking up the petition on the basis of newspaper reports, High Court made the principal secretary, home, Director General of Police, the Hyderabad police commissioner and deputy commissioner of police, North, and two other police officers respondents.

Chiranjeevi had been picked up by police at about 6 pm on Tuesday evening for questioning in connection with a theft case and died of severe head injuries at about 8 pm following alleged physical assault.
