Police said the accused Sirigiri Jayaram beat up his brother and throttled him and then called the police on Dial 100 to say Janardhan had committed suicide. The police after seeing the injuries on Janardhan’s body questioned Jayaram who admitted to killing his brother.
According to the police, the brothers were staying in their ancestral house located at Shivanagar Colony under Alwal police station. While the other brothers resided in different rooms, Janardhan and Jayaram shared a same room.
Janardhan made a living by begging in the surroundings while Jayaram was running an autorickshaw. A few days ago, their sister Vallamma moved to Alwal to work as a daily wage worker. As she could not get accomodation, she came to her brothers to stay with them. Janardhan asked Jayaram to clean the room of his articles and make space for their sister, and Jayaram agreed.
When Jayaram did not clean his articles, Janardhan himself started doing this job. Jayaram picked up a fight with Janardhan outside the house on the main road, but were seperated by the residents.
Later when Janardhan went into his room and started calling Jayaram names, the younger brother rushed into the room and pounced on him. He closed Janardhan’s mouth, punched him and throttled him.
When their elder sister Virupakshi went to the room, she found Janardhan dead. Jayaram then called the police. Jayaram confessed and was later detained.
