Businessman brandishes pistol to escape bomb attack

Chennai: Using his gun, a labour contractor in neighbouring Kancheepuram survived an attempt on his life by a gang which pelted country made bombs at him. Police identified the contractor as Thirumaran (45), a local politician of Maraimalai Nagar.
He was returning after visiting a factory in Oragadam driving his Maruti swift car. He had slowed his vehicle to cross down a speed breaker on Peliyamedu when a Tata Sumo from behind and a Tata Safari from front hit his vehicle making sure that his car was sandwiched. At the same time, three men on three bikes reached there and one started throwing country bombs at his car.
Thirumaran immediately brandished his licensed gun. Seeing the gun, the biker who was throwing the bomb abandoned his two-wheeler on the road. The drivers of the two SUVs too abandoned their vehicles. The three then got on to two other bikes and the five men sped away from the scene in two bikes,” police said. \

Immediately after the incident, a rattled Thirumaran contacted senior police officials, who dispatched a team of investigators to the spot. He had told the police that he suspected the gang was sent by his business rivals. He was later taken to Maraimalai Nagar police station for a detailed statement.
