Palakkad: Four members of a family committed suicide  by hanging themselves in  their house  at Mathur,  near Kuzhalmandam here,   on Sunday night. The deceased are Balakrishnan, 60, a painter by profession, his wife Radhamani, 53, and their twin daughters Drishya and Darsana aged 20. Drishya was pursuing her degree course and Darshana was a nursing student.

The incident came to light at 10.30 p.m. on Sunday when Balakrishnan’s elder son, Diguraj, who returned from Palakkad found all the doors of the house shut from inside. As there was no response, he informed the neighbours.    After opening the windows of the house, they saw the bodies hanging from the ceiling in two different rooms.

Alathur DySP C.K. Ramachandran told DC that a suicide note pointed to a family dispute over the marriage of Diguraj, who is employed in a Gulf country. Diguraj had planned to marry a woman with whom he was in love, but the family opposed the marriage   as she was from a lower caste. After post-mortem at the Palakkad hospital,  the bodies were handed over to the relatives.
