Congress MP from Wayanad and former party president Rahul Gandhi has called upon his party-men in Thoothukudi district to light candles in front of their houses at 7 pm on Sunday and pay homage to the memory of the two traders of Sathankulam, Jayaraj and his son J Bennix, who died after being allegedly thrashed in police custody.
"I am deeply saddened and pained" by the police action that led to the death of the two traders in Sathankulam, Jayaraj and J Bennix," he said in message sent to the TNCC President K S Azhagiri, here.
Stating that "we will agitate until those responsible for the two traders' deaths are brought to Justice", Rahul Gandhi said he was unable to come down to Thoothukudi immediately due to the Coronavirus circumstances, while conveying his condolences to the family of the deceased traders.
