Bengaluru: Fake excise officer dupes woman, lands in police net
When he was asked by the woman about his profession. Mubarak explained about his job and succeeded in impressing her.
Bengaluru: A 40-year-old mechanic, who posed as an excise officer to dupe a woman, has finally landed in police net.
The accused has been identified as Abdul Mubarak alias Vinay Kumar alias Mohammad Haji Shaikh, a car mechanic and a resident of Parappana Agrahara.
He had created a fake ID card wearing a police uniform and introduced himself as Assistant Prohibition and Excise Surintendant of Telangana State and befriended a woman while travelling in BMTC bus. According to Basvangudi police, Mubarak boarded a BMTC bus and sat beside a woman. He was in plainclothes, but was wearing the fake ID card.
When he was asked by the woman about his profession. Mubarak explained about his job and succeeded in impressing her.
The exchanged mbile numbers and began talking over phone and meeting frequently. Mubarak proposed the woman for marriage. On February 10, Mubarak called the woman and asked her to be ready for marriage shopping.
The accused took the woman to a jewellery outlet on D.V.J. Road to buy her a gold chain.
While the woman was choosing the chains, Mubarak took one and wore it. He told the woman that he would go to the trial room and check.
He also took the woman’s mobile phone saying he needed to talk with his friend and that he was running short of balance.
Mubarak took the chain and mobile phone and fled. The woman who kept waiting for Mubarak to come and pay for the purchase eventually realised that she has been duped. She approached the police and filed a cheating complaint.
Based on the CCTV footage and call detail record the police arrested Mubarak.
During the interrogation, the police found that the accused was involved in a similar case in Mumbai.
