According to Basvangudi police, Mubarak boarded a BMTC bus and sat beside a woman. He was in plainclothes, but was wearing the fake ID card.

When he was asked by the woman about his profession. Mubarak explained about his job and succeeded in impressing her.

The exchanged mbile numbers and began talking over phone and meeting frequently. Mubarak proposed the woman for marriage. On February 10, Mubarak called the woman and asked her to be ready for marriage shopping.

The accused took the woman to a jewellery outlet on D.V.J. Road to buy her a gold chain.

While the woman was choosing the chains, Mubarak took one and wore it. He told the woman that he would go to the trial room and check.
