Tamil Nadu: Child marriage averted in the eleventh hour
The Child Line unit working at RDO Trust at Aruvankadu near here had received information about the proposed marriage.
Ooty: The marriage of a 17-year-old girl with a 19-year-old boy which was scheduled to take place on Sunday was stopped in the nick of time, thanks to the quick intervention of the officials and Child Line volunteers here.
The Child Line unit working at RDO Trust at Aruvankadu near here had received information about the proposed marriage. A team comprising Ms. Devakumari, the district Social Welfare officer, Hemalatha and Wilson Rinesh from Child Line at RDO Trust, rushed to the girl's house in Gandhipettai at Lovedale near here on Saturday night.The team found that preparations were on in full swing for the wedding. Enquiries revealed that the school dropout girl was to be married off to the 19 year-old-boy at a temple early on Sunday but was averted.
