Chennai: Alcoholic auto driver stabs wife to death
For the past one month, Udhaya Kumar stayed at home and was given to boozing 24/7 with his friends.
CHENNAI: An auto driver under the influence of alcohol, allegedly stabbed his wife repeatedly with a kitchen knife in Kallukuttai, Perungudi here, on Monday night.
Police said, auto driver Udhaya Kumar (30) and Manimegalai (25) lived in Indira Nagar near Kallukuttai in Perungudi, with their two-year-old son. For the past one month, Udhaya Kumar stayed at home and was given to boozing 24/7 with his friends.
On Monday also, his gang of friends allegedly boozed inside the house. Irritated, Manimegalai scolded them and asked them to go home, and leave her husband alone. However, they stayed back and created nuisance.
Sources said, one of Udhaya Kumar's friend, Mani, allegedly abused and thrashed Manimegalai for asking them to get away.
Irked by this, Manimegalai informed her brother Anantha Narayanan who came to the spot and asked the gang to disperse, but in vain. Following this, Manimegalai approached the Thoraipakkam police station and lodged a complaint against Udhaya Kumar and his friends.
When Manimegalai came home from the police station, Udhaya Kumar who was hiding a kitchen knife inside his dress, allegedly stabbed her repeatedly on her chest and neck, and fled the spot.
Hearing the victim's cry for help, neighbours rushed her to the Rajiv Gandhi government hospital, but she died within a few minutes. Thoraipakkam police registered a murder case against Udhaya Kumar and are searching for him.
