Guntur: Four arrested for murdering two, robbing Rs 29 lakh ITC stock
The main accused passed Class X and was earlier involved in a crime case in Chilakaluripeta police station limits.
Guntur: The Guntur Rural police arrested the accused in the murder of a lorry driver and robbing of cigarettes, soaps and biscuits, worth Rs 29 lakh, from the vehicle.
Guntur Rural SP Ch.V. Appala Naidu said N. Subba Rao, 48, belonging to Patelnagar of Ramavarappadu in Vijayawada, was working as a lorry driver in Truckers India Transport.
The accused, L. Nageswar Rao and Sk Nagarjuna of Narasaraopeta, G. Srinu of Kunkalagunta of Nakarikallu and Ch. Srinivasa Rao of Kesanupalli in Narasaraopet murdered Subba Rao and robbed the stock.
Mr Appala Naidu said on Sept. 7, Subba Rao started off to Chirala from the ITC godowns at Gudavalli in Krishna district with the stock in a lorry (AP29TA 5980).
The four accused stopped the lorry on NH-16 at Pedakakani posing themselves as commercial tax officials, asked Subba Rao to show papers, took him with them and killed him with knives. Then they unloaded the stock in Srinivas Rao's house, abandoned the lorry at Gangannapalem and burnt the body of Subba Rao in the fields belonging to K. Kanakaiah on Santamaglur-Ballikurva road on the banks of NSP canal.
The SP said Sk Nagarjuna and G. Srinu earlier murdered another person K. Antaiah of Kunkavaripalem in Muppalla mandal on Sept. 11 on a contract.
He said the police began investigation into the two murder cases and found involvement of the four accused in Subba Rao's murder and two of the accused in Antaiah's murder. The main accused passed Class X and was earlier involved in a crime case in Chilakaluripeta police station limits. The second accused, Nagarjuna, is involved in 9 cases in Chilakaluripeta, Narasaraopeta, Rompicharla, Sattenapalli, Achampeta, Piduguralla, Nallapadu and Santamaglur police stations.
Mr Appala Naidu said Chilakaluripeta Rural CI U. Sobhan Babu, with his police team, under the supervision of DSP K. Nageswara Rao, arrested the four accused at Narasaraopeta on Tuesday night. He said cigarettes, chocolates, soaps, chips, atta and other products of ITC, worth Rs 29 lakh, were recovered.
