Chennai: Man held for murdering his wife over property

Chennai: K.K. Nagar police have arrested a man who murdered his wife and subsequently covered up the crime by initially convincing the police that it was a murder for gain.

According to the police, Annamalai (68) killed his wife, Maheshwari due to a family dispute on Wednesday night.

On Wednesday night Maheshwari, a resident of Kanniappa Nagar, was found in a pool of blood with injuries all over her body. She was hit with a heavy object on her head that cracked her skull and her waist was injured too.

The incident came to light after her daughter Kavitha came home from work.

Preliminary investigation revealed that there was a prolonged difference between the couple and they often quarreled.

Annamalai, an auditor, initially told the police he was at Tambaram when the incident happened. However, on further drilling, he confessed that he murdered his wife out of rage.

Police told that last night Annamalai kept fighting with his wife, as he wanted the land property to be written in his name, as the argument intensified, Annamalai used some heavy weapons and hit her hard.

Kavitha who came home on the wee hours of Thursday after her work alerted the police. Annamalai stated that the valuables and cash from the house are stolen to make it look like an outsider’s job.

However, further grilling revealed Annamalai had killed his wife. He was arrested and later remanded to judicial custody.
