Bengaluru: Two women committed suicide over petty family rows in separate incidents in Jnanabharathi and Yelahanka police station limits on Thursday night.
In the first incident, a 33-year-old woman committed suicide over a family feud with her husband on Thursday night in the Jnanabharathi police station limits. The couple got married nine years ago and have a six-year-old child.
The deceased, Nethravathi, was the wife of Mahadevappa, a central government employee and a resident of Muneshwara Nagar.
According to the police, the husband and wife had gone out for a ceremony and left their child at its grandmother's house. When they returned, the duo fought over an issue following which Mahadevappa walked out of the house in a huff.
Immediately after, Nethravathi hanged herself from the ceiling fan. Mahadevappa returned early on Friday morning and found her hanging. He then alerted the police.
The Jnanabharathi police have registered the case and have detained Mahadevappa for further investigation.
In another incident, a 23-year-old woman committed suicide on Thursday night over a petty fight with her husband in Yelahanka police limits. A mother of one-year-old child hanged herself from the ceiling after putting her kid to sleep.
The deceased, Anusha, was a resident of Chowdeshwari Layout in Yelahanka. She got married to Shivakumar, a tailor, three years ago.
The police said that the couple had a minor fight on Thursday morning when Anusha told Shivakumar that she wanted to go to her mother’s place. Shivakumar denied permission, saying she could go some other day and left the house for work, ignoring Anusha’s threat that she would commit suicide.
A neighbour heard incessant cries of the child and peeped inside the house and found the Anusha hanging from the ceiling, the police said.
