Gujarat: IPS officer's minor daughter attacked by 'masked man'
Police is trying to find out how the person managed to enter the house during night and the motive behind attacking the girl.
Ahmedabad: A 17-year-old daughter of a senior IPS officer was allegedly attacked by an unidentified man when she was alone in her house in Ahmedabad, police said on Monday.
Based on a complaint filed by the minor girl, who is studying in class XII, Gujarat University Police have lodged an FIR against the man under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and under various sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The FIR was registered on Sunday evening and investigations are underway to identify the accused, who attacked the daughter of a senior IPS officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-1), Bipin Ahire said.
"As per the FIR, a man wearing mask tried to choke the victim's throat when she was sleeping in her house at around 1 AM on Sunday. She received minor injuries on her neck while resisting the attack," Ahire said.
"As the girl, who was alone at the time of the attack, bravely fought back, the accused ran towards the main door and managed to escape after climbing down the stairs of the building. The girl then approached her neighbours and informed them about the incident," he said.
Police is trying to find out how the person managed to enter the house during night and the motive behind attacking the girl.
"Since the girl is a minor, we have invoked POCSO Act against the accused. We are taking help of forensic experts to figure out how that man managed to enter into the house and why he attacked the girl. It is a matter of investigation whether the man was known to the victim," Ahire said.
The girl's father is a senior Gujarat-cadre IPS officer who has been transferred out of the state.
