Chennai: In a shocking incident, a 21-year-old man killed his grandfather over a land dispute at Korattur on Monday.
According to police, V. Porselvan (21), an auto driver, murdered his grandfather Durai (74) at his residence on Aghragaram Street in Korattur.
Police told the deceased’s wife died five years ago. His two sons Gunasekaran and Venugopal resided in the same locality. Venugopal’s son murdered the old man.
According to family sources, Porselvan kept asking for the 600 square feet property that Durai owns, while he said it would be divided equally. Porselvan wanted the plot for himself. After he refused to accede to his demand, the grandson killed Durai. On Monday evening, Porselvan came to Durai's residence in an inebriated state and started arguing with the old man. As the argument intensified Porselvan beat his grandfather repeatedly with a slipper and fled the scene leaving him in a pool of blood.
After a few minutes, Durai died on the spot. The deceased body was sent to Royapettah government hospital for post-mortem. Meanwhile, Durai's elder son Gunasekaran on Tuesday lodged a complaint with the Korattur police.
Following the compliant Korattur police arrested the absconded Porselvan and remanded him in judicial custody.
