Kerala Police Efforts and Government Support Lead to Safe Recovery of Abducted Girl
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala ADGP (Law and Order) M R Ajith Kumar said the massive efforts carried out by the police with the full support of the government including the chief minister, ministers and senior politicians helped in building pressure on the kidnappers.
The chief minister kept close tabs on the probe and sought details on an hourly basis. The pressure was so intense that the kidnappers were forced to abandon the child in the Asramam ground, he said.
On Monday at around 4.15 pm a white colour swift car came and kidnapped the child Abigel Sara Reji, a woman who was inside the vehicle gave a paper to her brother Jonathan and asked him to give it to his grandmother. In the meantime, she dragged Abigel into the vehicle.
They also tried to kidnap Jonathan who managed to rescue himself from their clutches. He was carrying a stick with which he even tried to hit the woman.
Ajithkumar said the girl was not fully normal as she was still in mild shock because of what had happened. “After speaking to her briefly we managed to get some more details. After the abduction, she was forced to lie down in the back seat. With the girl crying loudly, the abductors covered her mouth with their hands. She was taken to a big house and kept in a room overnight. The kidnappers gave her food and a laptop on which she played cartoon games.
On Tuesday morning, the girl was brought to Chinnakkada in Kollam town in a blue vehicle. From Chinnakada the woman took her to Asramam ground in an autorickshaw where she abandoned the child. “We are examining the suspects' list and verifying it with our data bank. We will catch the accused soon,” he said and added that the culprits are suspected to be from the local area.
He said the probe was only at the preliminary stage as the entire focus and priority till now was to rescue the girl.
Abigel’s father says no one should face the trauma undergone by their family
The girl’s father thanked everyone for the support lent to the family in the hour of crisis.
“The entire government machinery rose up to the challenge. I want to thank each and everyone cutting across all political divides. The chief minister spoke to us directly.
Similarly, the ministers, opposition leaders, senior politicians and top officials called us and offered all help and expressed solidarity with our family. The mainstream media and social media platforms extended full support," he said.
“I have no words to thank each and every one for bringing my child safe within 24 hours. By noon today, I had lost all hope and was totally dejected. Can't express in words how relieved we are that she came back totally safe without even a scratch," he said.
Meanwhile, the child has been shifted to a hospital for medical care following the kidnap trauma that she underwent for the last 24 hours. The child’s parents and brother will also be with her in the hospital.
The police will speak to the girl only after getting the go-ahead from medical experts. The child is likely to remain under medical supervision overnight.
