Tirupati: The Darghamitta police reunited the four-year-old boy, Sunny, after he was abducted by an unknown person from the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Nellore on December 25. Nellore city DSP D. Srinivasa Reddy handed over the boy to his mother late on Wednesday night.

According to the DSP, Santhi from Bujjammacheruvu of Santhapeta in Nellore city visited the GGH in the city on December 25 to console her relative who was admitted there. She saw the boy playing alone on the hospital premises and offered him some food before taking him to her house.

Using technical support, police teams, led by circle inspector B.V. Subba Rao, traced the boy to Santhi’s house and returned him to his mother. Darghamitta police registered a case against Santhi. According to the police, Santhi, who is childless after nearly six years of marriage, took the boy to raise as her own.

The boy's mother, P. Tirupatamma, married a man from Chirala but later separated and was living with her brother in Nellore’s Rama Koti Nagar. She has been undergoing treatment at the hospital for an unspecified, life-threatening illness. On December 25, around 4 pm, Tirupatamma noticed her son had disappeared from the hospital premises. Unable to find her son after exhaustive searches within the premises, Tirupatamma, who is unwell and unable to walk, stayed at the hospital, anticipating her son’s return.

After learning of the disappearance, CI Subba Rao approached her, registered a complaint under Section 363 of the Indian Penal Code (kidnapping), and launched a search operation for the missing boy. DSP Srinivasa Reddy appreciated the efforts of Darghamitta police in tracing the boy. Further investigations against Santhi are underway.
