Rapist teacher jailed for 25 years

Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam Special Pocso Court sentenced a teacher to 25 years in jail for the rape of a 16-year-old girl and imposed a fine of ₹50,000. Further, the court awarded the victim a compensation of Rs 4.5 lakh.

According to the prosecution, Fourth Town police station received a complaint on February 27, 2020, that M. Janakeswara Rao, working as a teacher at the Aditya Tuition Centre in Akkayapalem, had raped a tenth-standard student.

The student got admitted to the tuition centre for coaching, Janakeswara Rao used to touch her indecently every day and sexually harassed her.

One day, after the tuition, he raped her, took some photos with his phone and threatened her that if she told anyone, he would post the pictures on social media. Subsequently, he raped his student several times.

The girl's brother got to know about this and informed his family. They lodged a complaint with the Fourth Town police, who registered a case.

Police interrogated Janakeswara Rao, filed a charge sheet and committed the case to the POCSO court.

The sentencing of the teacher has come after three years and 10 months.
