Bengaluru: Doctor in Mercedes' on drugs?
The accused was produced before a traffic court on Monday.
BENGALURU: The Wilson Garden traffic police, who are investigating the serial accident caused by an orthopaedic doctor while driving his Mercedes Benz in Byrasandra in Jayanagar on Sunday, have not been able to conclude whether the doctor was drunk while driving.
The police said that the accused doctor, Dr Shankar N.S., 55, was subjected to a breath analysis test with an alcometer, but the device did not work.
“Though he was subjected to the test, the device did not get the readings correct. Prima facie, he appeared to be drunk, but the alcometer could not confirm it. He was also subjected to medical tests and we are waiting for the reports,” an official said.
The police also suspect that the doctor was under the influence of drugs. “As we could not rule out the possibility of him abusing narcotic substances, we have sent his blood samples for forensic tests. It would take a few more days’ time to arrive to a conclusion,” the official said, adding that the accused maintained that he had an epileptic seizure and that led to the mishap.
The accused was produced before a traffic court on Monday and was remanded to judicial custody till April 11. He was later taken to Parappana Agrahara central prison.
He has been booked under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and other Sections of the IPC. The three injured are said to be recovering in a hospital.
