Bengaluru: Gold showroom employee held for stealing ornaments
The accused has been identified as, Ganesh, a resident of Rajajinagar and hailing from Rajasthan.
Bengaluru: A 19-year-old employee at a gold showroom was arrested by the HSR Layout police for stealing gold ornaments from the shop and selling and mortgaging them to make quick money.
The accused has been identified as, Ganesh, a resident of Rajajinagar and hailing from Rajasthan. Ganesh was working as a salesman at Prem Jewellers in Rajajinagar for the last two years. The accused, according to police, first won the trust of his employer Uttamchand Jain through his commitment towards work and succeeded in becoming his favorite employee. In addition, the fact that both Ganesh and Uttamchand hailed from the same place in Rajasthan also worked in his favour.
Uttamchand was so impressed that he allowed Ganesh to stay in a room in his own house. Soon after Ganesh occupied the room, he was handed over more responsibilities and he began monitoring the stock and accounting. Ganesh then began to steal gold ornaments from the showroom and manipulated the stocks and accounting. After stealing them, he used to meet his clients and sell them at cheap rates. According to police, Ganesh also used to mortgage gold and make money.
“This went on for months or perhaps years. Ganesh used to meet buyers in different places, away from Rajajinagar. His employer did not realise about the theft until recently, when he found a huge disparity in accounting and approached us to lodge the complaint. Based on a tip-off, we learnt that he was striking a deal near BDA complex in HSR Layout, from where he was arrested,” the police said.
The police have recovered two gold chains worth Rs 25 lakh from him. “We are interrogating the accused to find out for how many months he has been in stealing ornaments from the showroom and to check other people’s involvement,” the police said.
