Chennai: Auto driver arrested for attacking sub-inspector

The sub-inspector tried to register a drunken driving case against Parthasarathy to which the latter expressed opposition.

Chennai: Police arrested an auto-rickshaw driver for allegedly attacking a traffic sub-inspector here on Friday night. According to police, SI Abdul Majid (52) attached to Tiruvanmiyur traffic enforcement police was indulging in a regular vehicle check near LB Road signal in Tiruvanmiyur on Friday night.

“Abdul Majid stopped an auto-rickshaw and found its driver, Parthasarathy (21) of Periyar Nagar in Tiruvanmiyur, was under the influence of alcohol,” the police said.

The sub-inspector tried to register a drunken driving case against Parthasarathy to which the latter expressed opposition. An argument erupted ensuing a fisticuff.

“Parthasarathy attacked Abdul Majid. Seeing this, other police personnel secured Parthasarathy,” the police said. Tiruvanmiyur police registered a case and arrested Parthasarathy.
