Hyderabad: Chain snatcher arrested, Rs 1.1 lakh gold recovered

Hari Krishna had financial problems as his mother was suffering from ill-health.

Hyderabad: A man who started snatching chains for money to cure his ailing mother was arrested by the Shah Ali Banda Police.  

The police arrested Muthu Hari Krishna, a resident of Falaknuma and a native of Madurai district of Tamil Nadu, who runs a tiffin centre on a push-kart and  recovered gold chain weighing about 5.5 tolas, Rs 64,000 and a bike from him. 

“On Tuesday, a complaint was received from one Ogardas Nagesh, 50, GHMC sanitary jawan, stating that when he and his daughter were enroute to a temple in Chaderghat, a biker snatched the gold chain weighing about 5.5 tolas from his daughter’s neck, injuring her while doing so,” said the ACP Falaknuma, Syed Fiaz.  

For the past few months, Hari Krishna was under severe financial problems and his mother was suffering from ill-health. He decided to snatch  gold chains from women's neck to full fill his needs.

“On Tuesday, he noticed Nagesh and his daughter, and snatched the chain and fled away, due to which, the girl received injury on her neck. Hari pledged the chain at Manappuram Gold loan office at Balapur cross roads  for Rs 1.1 lakh.  He spent Rs 46,000 and kept the remaining Rs 64,000 with him,” the official said. 

On Saturday, he noticed the police conducting vehicle checking and tried to flee but in vain. He was  apprehended and the property was recovered.
