VIJAYAWADA: Disha police on Wednesday arrested a man Karnati Satish Babu hailing from Andakuru village in Krosuru mandal of Palnadu district on charges of marrying five women.

According to police, Satish Babu wed Srilakshmi hailing from Guntur on June 16, 2022 in presence of family members at a temple in Vijayawada. At the time of marriage, he informed Srilakshmi’s family members that he was working as a software engineer in the US and had divorced his wife.

After marriage, the couple moved to Hyderabad. Soon, Satish Babu started mounting pressure on Srilakshmi to take a housing loan worth ₹80 lakh. To force her further, he threatened to put up her photos and videos captured in their bedroom on social media. In the interim, Srilakshmi got a job in Bengaluru and she moved to that city. Satish Babu arrived there too, continued troubling her and even threatened to go back to the US.

Around the time, Srilakshmi came to know that he had earlier married four women. Following this, she lodged a complaint with Disha women police station in Guntur. Accordingly, police booked under several sections Satish Babu as well as his father for being an accomplice and arrested the two.

During the course of interrogation, Satish Babu confessed that he had married Sailaja from Visakhapatnam in 2005 for the first time; then Lavanya in the US in 2017; Lakshmi from Narasaraopeta, also in 2017; and Divya from Nellore in 2019. Satish Babu had been booked earlier by police after Divya lodged a complaint in 2021.

The accused informed police that his parents were aware of his marriages and encouraged him to do so.
