KOZHIKODE: Police on Sunday arrested another Communist Party of India (Marxist) activist for the murder of Indian Union Muslim League  worker Muhammad Aslam of Nadapuram. Rameesh, 26, of Vellur, Thuneri, is the third person to be held in the case. He is suspected to have guided the killers, following Aslam’s vehicle, just before the murder. Mr Rameesh is a CPM worker residing close to the house of Aslam.

Meanwhile, Nadapuram ASP Karuppasamy, who was leading the investigation, has been transferred allegedly under pressure from the top, and further proceedings in the investigation have come to a standstill. It is alleged that the government took revenge on the police officer for conducting searches on CPM local leaders' houses. Aslam was hacked to death on August 19. He was the third accused in the murder of DYFI activist Shibin Bhasker of Thuneri. A local court here had acquitted him recently.
